Did a lot of racing back in the day and I must say, boy its not easy going back to standard shift. Now everytime I purchase a bike I have to swap to GP shift. Both Guzzis and Ducati oil heads always present a challenge, and the V7 III been constantly stressing me out.

Rearsets doesnt fix the shift lever motion issue on the V7, the change has to happen at the transmission shaft. To get the appropriate clearance for the shift rod, i welded a longer thread onto the lever arm's knob and used a spacer. I also added a large weld knuckle for more distance from the mounting. It works alright, though the shift rod is approachiing its limit. I plan on doing some more mods on this bik, so if you wanna share anything please do!

Sounds like you've got quite the racing history! I can only imagine the different feel going back to standard! Since you're planning more mods, have you considered looking into aftermarket adjustable rear sets specifically designed for GP shifts? You might find some manufacturers offering better options for the shift lever geometry. I'm thinking that will you a cleaner set up and avoid the shift rod's limit!

I totally get the struggle with standard shifts, I had to modify my bikes too, especially the Guzzis, for the V7, welding that shift lever worked well but I'm thinking about adding more adjustments soon

Yep, been there too! Guzzis always seem to need a little tweak to get the controls just right. Curious what kind of adjustments you're thinking of adding next?

Totally get the struggle with the V7 III! Guzzis and older Ducatis can definitely be stubborn when it comes to GP shift.
Most riders just throw money at rearsets hoping for a fix, but you're right, the real magic happens at the transmission shaft.
I wonder, what made you decide on this specific mod (longer thread/spacer/knuckle) over other potential options you might have looked at? And how's the lever feels now compared to a factory GP setup?
